Colorado weather is unpredictable. Here is exactly what happens when rain, wind, or storms arrive during your scheduled adventure at The EDGE.
Colorado is famous for its sunshine, but anyone who has spent time here knows that weather can change rapidly, especially during summer afternoon storm cycles. If you have a scheduled activity at The EDGE and the forecast looks questionable, here is everything you need to know about our weather policies, safety protocols, and what to expect when Mother Nature does not cooperate.
The most important thing to understand is that light rain does not stop our operations. Our courses and equipment are designed for outdoor use in all weather conditions. A gentle drizzle might even enhance your experience by adding an extra element of adventure and keeping crowds lighter than normal. Your harness and safety equipment function identically whether wet or dry, and our guides are experienced in facilitating tours in various weather conditions. Some of our most memorable tours happen under dramatic Colorado skies.

Lightning is the one weather condition that immediately halts all operations. This is non-negotiable and applies industry-wide to any outdoor activity involving height or metal equipment. When lightning is detected within a certain radius of our facility, all participants are brought down from courses and sheltered until the threat passes. Colorado's afternoon thunderstorms typically move through quickly, often clearing within 30 to 45 minutes. If a delay occurs, we extend your session time to compensate.

Wind is evaluated on a continuous basis throughout the day. Light to moderate wind is normal and safe for all activities. High winds may cause temporary holds on specific activities, particularly the zipline tour where wind affects line dynamics. Our operations team monitors wind speeds with professional instruments and makes real-time decisions about course status. If wind requires a pause, it is usually brief in Colorado's typically variable conditions.
What should you wear when rain is possible? The key is to avoid cotton, which becomes heavy and cold when wet. Synthetic or wool base layers stay comfortable even if they get damp. A lightweight rain jacket with a hood fits comfortably under your harness and keeps your core dry. Avoid ponchos or full-length rain coats that could interfere with equipment. For your feet, waterproof hiking shoes or boots are ideal, but regular athletic shoes work fine if you do not mind them getting wet. Bring a dry change of clothes in your car for after your session.

Our cancellation and rebooking policy is designed to be fair to guests when weather forces a cancellation. If we determine that conditions are unsafe and cancel your activity, you receive a full refund or the option to rebook at no additional cost. We make these calls as early as possible to minimize your inconvenience. If weather hits mid-activity and we cannot safely resume within a reasonable time, you receive a prorated refund or credit for your remaining time. Our staff always prioritizes your safety over revenue.
The bottom line: do not let a chance of rain discourage you from keeping your reservation. Colorado weather is localized and fast-moving. That 60 percent chance of afternoon storms often means 30 minutes of rain followed by beautiful skies. By showing up ready for anything, you demonstrate the adventurous spirit that brought you to The EDGE in the first place. And if conditions truly prevent your adventure, we make it right every time.
